Introduction to a (hopefully) future PA!

- About Me -

Hi there! My name is Trini Dean and I am a Health & Exercise Science major with a minor in Spanish. I am hoping to be a Physician Assistant one day and specialize in Pediatrics. I am actually from Norman, Oklahoma so I've been here my whole life! My favorite class last semester was Organic Chemistry, I didn't think that I was going to enjoy it as much as I did but I had a great professor and I finished with an A (barely) so that helped a lot! My favorite TV show would have to be the office, I've watched the entire series all the way through at least 5 times.

Some of my favorite things include:

My doggo Roxy - so photogenic
     Picture taken by me (2017)

     1) I don't even normally like chihuahuas but I like MY chihuahua. She isn't awkwardly shaped, loud, or any of the other bad chihuahua stereotypes. She's going to be 12 this year and she still looks like a little puppy, I'm obsessed. My favorite thing to do with her (and her absolute favorite thing) is taking her on campus for walks, as seen above. I let her run around because she never goes very far from where I am and it's the cutest thing ever.

     2) If you have not treated yourself to Victoria's Pasta Shop on campus corner you are missing out. I eat here way more frequently than I would care to admit. Their primavera is currently my favorite food and I don't see that changing anytime in the foreseeable future. YUM.

I also enjoy going on hikes, skiing, almost any kind of animal, almost any kind of food...My favorite movie I most recently saw would have to be Bird Box. I feel like everyone really liked that movie, if you haven't watched it yet you should definitely go watch it on Netflix now.

  1. Oh, your Roxy knows how to pose for the camera, Trini: SO CUTE! I am a fan of chihuahuas (we had a chihuahua-beagle mix when I was little) -- you should add her lovely face to the Padlet of Pets: Padlet Tech Tips. All that extra credit stuff starts in Week 2 but it's actually ready now (that's an all-purpose mantra for this class: no need to wait!) ... dogs, cats, all pets welcome! As for food, India is one of the great cuisines of the world, so maybe you can use this class as an excuse for dining adventures. Call it... research! You'll see Indian rice pudding making a miraculous appearance in the first epic we read, for example: Kheer ... and whether it comes from the gods or from the dessert menu at an Indian restaurant, it is delicious! :-)

  2. Hello Trini! I love the photo you posted of Roxy. She looks to relaxed! I see that many people on here have mentioned pasta, and loving it, so we should all be getting great pasta tips from one another! I have tried Victoria's and it was good. If I go again, I will try the primavera. There are quite a few Italian restaurants in Norman, and I can't wait to try more. If you have any other suggestions, let me know! Bird Box was a great movie. I personally think there will be a Bird Box 2, it just ended that way. What do you think? Thanks for the great post!!

  3. Hello, hello Trini!! Its interesting that you enjoy food. That's something that we don't really have in common, since I eat solely for biological survival. I suppose everything I do is solely for my own survival. Hmm.. You're from Norman as well? what high school did you go to? I wonder if we've met before. By the way, have you ever considered that if you were to compress a composite material layup that was asymmetrical about its midpoint, then it would not just compress, but also fold in on the weaker side of the asymmetrical material? This is called stiffness coupling in engineering, and can seriously complexity stress calculations. A similar phenomenon occurs if you try to bend that same composite layup.

  4. Hi, Trini! First of all, your dog is adorable. I have always had larger dogs and usually consider myself a big-dog person, but Roxy is definitely among the small dogs that are cute enough to change my mind! One of my dogs is a white lab, and she also manages to look like a puppy at 13 years old. The Office is also one of my favorite shows- I'm constantly making references when I talk to people and hoping they get them! Pasta is one of my favorite types of food, and while I usually get it at Olive Garden or BJ's, I have enjoyed Victoria's quite a few times as well.

  5. Hey Trini! Roxy is sooo cute!!! She looks like an absolute angel. I also really like Victoria's. I had chicken parm with pink sauce. It's a mix of red sauce and alfredo. I had never heard of it until my roommate asked for it when we were there. It was good but I am still a fan of alfredo. Good luck in PA school! You'll do amazing.

  6. Hello Trini! Like you, I aspire to go into the medical field, so I think that is awesome and I wish you luck on your future endeavors! My tradition at the beginning of the fall semester is to start the office and watch it all the way through. I started doing this my sophomore year, so I have done it three times now. Not as much as you, but I’m sure I’ll get there! It’s awesome that you love Italian food, it’s my personal favorite as well. If you haven’t, I recommend going to Gaberino’s homestyle Italian cooking restaurant in Norman. It is right by BJ’s, just off the highway. It is absolutely delicious. I haven’t been to Victoria’s Pasta shop and will have to check it out!

  7. Hi Trini Dean,

Your dog Roxy is the cutest dog ever. I agree she is photogenic. The Office is hand down one of my top favorites also. It such a good TV show. I have been to Victoria's Pasta Shop but I have never tried the Primavera so per your recommendation when I go there again I will definitely try it. If you like pasta, La Madeleine is a place I highly recommend in Norman.

  8. Hi Trini, the medical field is such a noble aspiration. Organic chemistry is super interesting. I took it in high school, and I enjoyed every lab we did. I like the crystallization reactions the most because we got to use the FTIR machine to identify what we had produced. I wish you the best of luck getting into PA school.

  9. Very nice to meet you Trini. OChem is definitely VERY cool! As a Chemical Engineering major myself, I can appreciate your enthusiasm for it. It's so interesting to see that everything that happens in our bodies is just a series of chain reactions. We're all just chemicals! And that pasta, by the way, looks really good. I'll have to take your recommendation and visit there sometime!

  10. Hey Trini,
Im glad to hear that you have had a good experience with OChem I can not say I had the same although, I still enjoyed it more then the Gen Chem classes. Your dog Roxy is so cute, my small dog turned 18 and still looked like he was a puppy! I also love to hike and ski, I often go to Colorado to ski every winter vacation.

  11. Hey Trini! That is cool you're from Norman! I feel like it's somewhat rare to meet a Normanite at OU for some reason. Organic chemistry was your favorite class?? That seems crazy! I am a mechanical engineering major so I only had to take general chemistry 1 but I can't imagine that organic chemistry would be any fun. That's awesome though that you found something that you love to study.

  12. Hi Trini!
I wish you the best of luck getting into Physician's Assistant school! Do have any idea on where you would like to apply too?
Also, I think you are the first person that I have met that actually like organic chemistry. I absolutely hated, but I am glad it worked out for you!

  13. Hi Trini, its so nice to meet you! I’m also a dog person. I have two Pomeranians at home and I love both of them to death. Roxy looks absolutely adorable. I think it’s super cute how you let her run around when your taking her to campus. Have you always had her when she was a puppy?

  14. Hi Trini,

You know, I heard that organic chemistry is supposed to be a really hard class. I just took chemistry, and it was pretty tough, so congrats on getting A, but most importantly, enjoying it. Also, Roxy looks so cute, and you are right, she's super photogenic.

I look forward to reading some stories from you throughout the semester!

  15. Hello Trini! That is awesome that you are Health and Exercise Science major, because I am too! I am in love with your dog! I love how she is smiling and ready for the camera. And I love eating pasta too! It is always filling. Have you tried other pasta places in Oklahoma City? Anyways, I wish you the best of luck in school!

  16. Roxy is quite the looker isn't she! I'm super surprised you said your favorite class was Organic Chemistry, I often hear how hard that class is and how everyone hates it, so you must truly have a passion for Chem if you were able to withstand and enjoy that class. I wish I was more into The Office...I just don't understand the hype but it must be really good considering how many people binge it over and over. Victorias is really good I agree, I've been there quite a few times.

  17. Hi Trini! Ochem is one of my favorite classes too, mainly because I had Dr. Biggs! Your dog is super cute, but I am more of a cat person! I haven't been to Victoria's pasta shop yet, but Italian is my favorite food. I wish the Spaghetti Warehouse in Bricktown was still open!

  18. Hey Trini,

Congrats on getting that A, even if you barely got it, because organic chemistry sounds like an absolute nightmare. I also am a frequent customer of Victoria's, but my current obsession on their menu is their cheese bread. At first glance, it looks like you're just ordering cheese bread sticks, but its basically a mini pizza on cooked bread. HIGHLY recommend.

  19. hi Trini, I'm usually not a big fan of Chihuahuas either, but I have to make an exception for Roxy. I don't eat out often so I probably wont be eating at Victoria's very soon, but that's my own prerogative. Also congratulations on getting an A in organic chemistry. I've heard that that class is pretty hard, so good job!

  20. Hey Trini,
Roxy is so cute! Thanks for including that picture of her. I love pasta and Victoria's is one of my favorite places to eat in Norman. I think it's awesome that you're pursuing something in the medical field and I wish you the best of luck! I'm sure Organic Chemistry was really tough so congrats on that A.

  21. Hi Trini,

Your dog is adorable! I have a german shepherd and he is my whole life, but he does not stay with me which is so sad. Victoria's is so good! You should totally try the restaurant next door called Coriander. I am obsessed with it! It is so amazing, I could eat there every day, but I definitely try not to haha. It is wonderful that you want to be a PA. I hope that you succeed in your future courses as well and achieve your goals!

  22. Hi Trini! It's surprising to me that you enjoyed organic chemistry so much - I've heard so many people talk about how terrible it is, so it's refreshing to see someone actually enjoy the class. Your dog is adorable by the way! I definitely feel like I've seen her before, but I could be wrong. If you take her out for walks on campus often enough, I've probably seen her, right? Regardless, I am also glad you enjoy that pasta place as well. I don't eat out often, but it's a solid dining choice if I have time between classes, and their pasta is pretty good too!

Extra Reading Extra Credit Week 14

Big surprise that I wanted to read more Jataka stories! I love the Jataka stories. They are still my favorite out of all the stories I have ...
